Q. How do I know when it's time to come in for a checkup?
A healthy adult generally benefits from a professional cleaning and checkup every six months. Brushing and flossing twice a day go a long way toward maintaining good dental health, but regular checkups and professional cleaning help prevent the formation of plaque, which can harden into tartar and cause gingivitis. Regular checkups are your ticket to good dental health.
Q. How can I whiten my teeth?
Today's dentistry offers you a number of choices to help whiten your smile. We will evaluate what will work best for you based on the current status and color of your teeth and the cause of any discoloration. Once you decide on the most appropriate method, you will spend two to four weeks undergoing a series of simple whitening treatments.
Q. At what age should my children first see a dentist?
We would like to see children after 3 years of age. When they come in for an exam, we will try to examine their mouth and see how their teeth are developing. We try to make this visit as fun and relaxing as possible so your children will enjoy coming to the dentist.
Q. I've had a root canal treatment recently. Why is it important to return for a crown?
The tooth feels better, but it probably has a temporary filling material inside. The filling will keep the tooth sealed for a few weeks but may soon begin to leak. Bacteria from the mouth can get inside the tooth, and the root canal may need to be done again. Avoid these messy and expensive problems by promptly returning for a crown placement.
In most cases, a tooth that has had a root canal will need a crown for final restoration. Most teeth that need root canals have large fillings, breaks, or new decay.
Q. What is the importance of flossing?
Brushing teeth properly and consistently helps to remove most dental plaque, but, brushing alone cannot remove plaque that is located in places that a toothbrush cannot reach — particularly in between teeth. Flossing should take place at least once a day for two to three minutes each time to be most effective.
Q. Can my dentist do anything to help with offensive breath?
If you suffer from bad breath, we’ll check for underlying causes like tooth decay or gum disease and subsequently treat it.
Q. Why should I fix my tooth instead of just having it removed?
Replacing a tooth costs more than restoring it, and conservative treatments retain your natural oral structure. Sometimes, though, a doctor and patient decide that it makes more sense to replace a broken tooth. Share your thoughts and concerns with us so we can develop the best plan for your dental health
Q. What do I do if I have an emergency when the clinic is closed?

Q. How long should I wear my dentures?
Your dentist will provide instructions about how long dentures should be kept in place. During the first few days, you may be advised to wear them most of the time, including while you sleep. After the initial adjustment period, you may be instructed to remove the dentures before going to bed. This allows gum tissues to rest and promotes oral health. Generally, it is not desirable that the tissues be constantly covered by denture material.
